Public Speakers
If you’re looking for an entertaining business speaker who’s funny, energetic and an expert in marketing, I believe Martin Grunstein is very good. In the event that he’s not available Bret Treasure is willing to step in.
Bret accepts speaking engagements from businesses who let him dress up nicely and pay him more than he thinks he’s worth. He also does a number of pro-bono talks to charity groups that meet his complex and almost completely arbitrary criteria.
He’s an amateur stand-up comedian; really quite amateur. And he has little of value to say about marketing. Really, you should hire Martin Grunstein.
In addition to after-dinner speeches, breakfasts and almost anything else that involves food, Bret does slightly amusing talks about marketing and the internet. These can be customised and industry-specific.
Bret is an Associate Member of the National Speakers Association of Australia. It means he’s not a Proper Member.
Here are the topics Bret speaks on:
1. Cool Marketing
Are you struck by the predictability of most marketing and advertising? News flash: so are your customers. Using the restaurant industry as a case study, Bret discusses the ingredients of a cool marketing mix: Imagination, Personality and Positioning. This session will stimulate you to re-examine your marketing strategy. The aim is to have you leave the room in good humour and with at least one chocolate cake recipe.
2. Web Savvy
A rapid primer for business people interested in squeezing more out of their Internet use. Good though Google is, it’s twelve years old and it’s dominated by listings of businesses trying to sell you things. Sometimes you’re more interested in informed opinions. There are other web sites that are more appropriate.
Bret discusses better Googling and how to leverage Web 2.0 and social software applications like blogs, RSS, SlideShare, StumbleUpon, Twitter and LinkedIn. Finally, you’ll hear him go on and on about internet research tactics and what a wonderful tool Delicious is for structured sharing and management of web searches. Here’s 6 minutes’ worth of introduction:
3. The Internet Is Not Boring
A stimulating, perhaps even head-spinning ride through the richest experiences available on the Internet. It’s targeted at people who are curious about Internet trends but don’t have a lot of time to explore.
The tour takes in music sites, Internet Television, virtual worlds like Second Life, the best blogs in the world, micro-blogging and photo sharing sites.
It’s a snapshot of what already is and a sketch of what is likely to be. In this presentation Bret identifies the most disruptive technologies and speculates on their social/business impact.
4. Web Marketing
This is a show for small businesses and SMEs interested in web advertising, AdWords or improving their Google ranking. Is it entertaining? Not that much. Will you learn something useful? I wouldn’t rule it out. Wouldn’t rule it in.
